Guardian Assistance Program Specialist

Job Summary: 

This is a professional position responsible for completion of eligibility steps to qualify a child (ren) for the Guardianship Assistance Program and ensuring that timely permanency is being achieved. 

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with HFC internal and external customers

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the available benefits for relative and non-relative caregivers

  • Educate and support relative and non-relative caregivers through the approval process for eligible benefit(s), including the GAP as well as quality discussions on details regarding permanency through guardianship

  • Gather required GAP items for initial approval and required re-determinations for GAP and extended GAP programs 

  • Completion of required background clearance checks for identified successor guardian

  • Complete required steps for eligibility for GAP

  • Participate in meetings and/or staffing’s involving or regarding GAP and/or permanency as appropriate and work collaboratively with case management and children’s legal services

  • Train and educate others about GAP and its requirements

  • Track and monitor related to GAP/EGAP, pending and approved GAP cases

  • Maintain basic knowledge of young adult resources, post-secondary education support services, tuition waivers, housing assistance, aftercare services and career program to provide comprehensive guidance and support to young adults in GAP for educational/career opportunities

  • Completion of reports for data monitoring and tracking of the GAP program and permanency goals

  • Perform special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field with Florida Child Welfare Certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Two years of experience working with children, adolescents and families in a child welfare setting is preferred.
